“Yesterday I saw at 6 pm, north of Toulouse, a big shooting star in the sky. She was huge. Do you have other testimonials? “. Like Fabià, reader by News Toulouse, many of you have wondered about the luminous phenomenon that could be observed on Monday, December 13, 2021 in Toulouse and Occitanie, shortly after 6 p.m.
“Seen on leaving work. It has disintegrated in the Toulouse sky. It lasted over a long second, ”confirms Judd.
“I completely hallucinated”
Well, someone saw a kind of green meteorite pass by about ten minutes ago on #Toulouse ? 😂 I was completely hallucinated but a priori I am sober for the moment. ??

Seen from all over Occitania
Seen from Tarbes, Ariège and Tarn, the phenomenon has been identified by the community Sky Watch, a participatory science project led by the National Museum of Natural History. She notes on his Facebook page :
“Another very nice racing car observed from a large party in the South West of France this evening (December 13), at 6:06 pm, like a foretaste of Geminides! “
“Not a rocket stage”
Except that according to the first analyzes, the phenomenon observed in Toulouse and Occitania would not be linked to the Geminids, this shower of shooting stars whose peak was to occur on the night of December 13 to 14, but from another object .
“It is not already a rocket stage that would have consumed itself in the atmosphere immediately dismisses Olivier Sanguy from the Cité de l’Espace, who explains:
“According to initial calculations shared by the Vigie Ciel website, it is a meteor, from the main asteroid belt, located in Mars and Jupiter, which disintegrated on entering the atmosphere. It was visible for 7 seconds ”.
Slightly less than 10 cm
7 seconds is not nothing and this can be explained by the size of the object which traveled about twenty light years before reaching us …
” Her initial mass was about 2.5 kg pour a diameter slightly less than 10 cm of diameter. It entered the atmosphere at a speed of around 13.5 km / s (Figure 6) with a roughly South-North trajectory, says Vigie Ciel ”.
