Warsaw: Debate “The phenomenon of the Solidarity movement – the 40th anniversary of the outbreak of martial law in Poland”
The Solidarity Movement was developing into a power unprecedented in the world. This was what Wojciech Jaruzelski and the war scene were scared of, said Przemysław Czarnek, Minister of Education and Science, opening the debate “The phenomenon of the Solidarity movement – the 40th anniversary of the outbreak of martial law in Poland”.
The debate was held on Monday in the editorial office of Tygodnik Solidarność.

The Minister of Education announces “introduction to science, to the history of the subject + History and the present +”. “And it is a subject that will be taught not in the last grades, when only those who choose this subject at the matura exam. It will only be taught in the first and second years of secondary school for all, with full credit, with credit at the end of the course Counting the “degree” that counts for growth.
Prof. Czarnek announced that the classes will be preceded by “a two-hour introduction to what happened in the years-45”.
“There is no intruder, which includes us without knowing the basics, and there is no intruder who is not in this situation. ., this one is susceptible to very easy manipulation ”- Minister of Education.
As of the Ministry of Education and Science from September 1, 2022, in the 1st grade of post-primary school there will still be a compulsory subject “History and current content”, which subject “Knowledge about society” at the level. Ultimately, she will be teaching in grade I and II, in the first and first grade in week I, two hours in grade II. It contains content that has been common since the Second World War and that is universal.
The editor-in-chief of Tygodnik Solidarność, Michał Ossowski, noted that “until quite recently, martial law appeared in the public opinion as such a choice of a lesser evil”. “It was supposed to protect us from the invasion of the Polish territory by the Soviet army. The early reigning in the country, one could say, General Wojciech Jaruzelski (…) appeared personally as a national hero who protected our country from extermination” – he said. “Although we have no trace in any documents that this intervention was real, for years such a non-historical narrative was preserved, which resulted in the society sharing such a view” – Ossowski.

Andrzej Zybertowicz, director of the Military Historical Bureau Lieutenant General Kazimierz Sosnkowski, prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, Dr. Robert Derewenda from the Catholic University of Lublin and Dr. Grzegorz Wołk from the Historical Research Office of the Institute of National Remembrance.
In the debate, prof. Cenckiewicz points out that “the very achievements of this Solidarity movement – this is its phenomenon – disrupted the entire constitution of the People’s Republic of Poland”. “With elements of trust, it would not be possible to fit into the systemic framework of the progressive movement independent of the communists, which – how to combine – was not only a progressive movement, but also a fast-paced nation-nation-liberation movement, I am striving for Poland’s independence,” he assesses.
The director of the Military Historical Bureau recalled that “the first attempts at some forceful solutions” took place in 1980. “Introduction, that was the moment of a return entry in September 1980. “We will not understand the femen of the Solidarity movement without Lech Wałęs.” “Lech Wałęsa, who, like other characters, mixed wickedness with heroism, will not be removed from history.” “All stories about + Solidarity +, in which the further replacement of Lech Wałęsa with Anna Walentynowicz, for anyone, is harm done to the young generation” – said prof. Zybertowicz.
He pointed out that Wałęsa “today man is not lost, and everything is sorted, all layers according to a shameful manner”. “But in my opinion, there are still unexplored historians, and it still has to be done, that you have to do something, that you have to do something and tell about a certain truth” – he noted.
“We want to have the phenomenon of the Solidarity movement on Wałęsa – also his contribution. But how do we want to understand what a given agent is – to achieve a financial contribution, which Walesa of the Third Republic of Poland did” – argued prof. Zybertowicz.
