A man in Prague stole a car worth more than one and a half million crowns, and criminal investigators tracked him down in one day. As they chased him, the man crashed his car and crashed four cars in an accident. The 26-year-old is now awaiting trial, who can send up to eight years in prison.
He found the keys to BMW in the car the thief had broken into
Last Thursday morning, a 26-year-old man broke into a car parked in Vojtěšská Street in Prague 1. He took some valuable personal belongings from the car, as well as keys to another car. “With this burglary he caused damage for approximately thirty thousand crowns. Immediately after the theft, he walked down the street and tested to which car the stolen keys belonged, and the moment a parked BMW opened for him, he got into it like a car for more than one and a half million crowns, ” described the continuation of the case by a police spokesman Richard Hrdina.
Forensic scientists began to search for the man, searching for camera records of where he had gone in the stolen car. When he found the approximate location of the car, they set out to look for it on the spot. “Shortly before three o’clock in the morning, they noticed a passing vehicle in Újezd Street, which corresponded to the description of the stolen. The only thing that didn’t fit a little was the license plate. He found out by lustration that the registration marks, which were fitted to passing vehicles, are kept stolen in the Czech police systems. The team confirmed to them that it was most likely the vehicle they were looking for, and for this reason they decided to stop the police commander in color with the help of a company car. ” said Hero.
Thieves face up to eight years in prison
The driver did not want to stop and started driving down Milady Horáková Street. In a left turn on a slippery road, he failed to drive and crashed into four parked cars. The 26-year-old driver and his co-driver ended up in a police station. “During a later interrogation, the man learned of both thefts and turned out to be driving under the influence of drugs and, moreover, with a valid driving ban until 2023,” the spokesman added.
“The criminal investigators filed a complaint with the public prosecutor about his relationship in custody, which the judge complied with. The 26-year-old man is thus waiting in custody for the court, which he can send, with regard to causing considerable damage, up to eight years behind bars, ” added Hero.
