Syria’s Democratic Council meets with foreign ministers in Sweden and Finland

The SDC delegation and Sweden’s Foreign Minister Ann Linde discussed ways for Sweden’s and international support for Syria’s democratic opposition and to find a mechanism to reach a roadmap that leads to a more comprehensive and inclusive political process in the country.
Issues related to the humanitarian and economic situation in Syria in general and northern and eastern Syria in particular were also addressed.
“Sweden is a crucial partner”
“A fruitful meeting with the Swedish FM Ann Linde took place. We shared our visions of resolving the crisis in Syria in a way that safeguards the interests of all Syrians,” wrote SDC’s co-chair and chairman of SDC’s executive. advice Elham Ahmad on Twitter. “Sweden is a crucial partner and we appreciate its continued efforts to support the political solution and humanitarian aid.”
“Appreciates a sincere discussion with SDC’s Ilham Ahmad about the situation in northeastern Syria. Sweden remains an active partner,” tweeted Ann Linde after the meeting.
The delegation’s visit came before a two-day consultative meeting held on 13-14 December with Syria’s opposition figures and organizations during the “Meeting between democratic forces and personalities; necessity, opportunity and hope”.
“Progress in women’s empowerment”
On Saturday, Ahmad also visited Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in Helsinki. Haavisto and Ahmad also discussed ways for a political solution to the Syrian crisis and how to advance the political process in accordance with international resolutions.
Haavisto expressed his country’s admiration for the progress made by this part of Syria, especially with regard to the role of women, their autonomy and their great participation in all areas, the SDC’s press release states.
