It is an old file which returns to the front of the stage for the next council of the Metropolis of Lyon.
This Monday, December 13, the Métropole de Lyon is taking place for its last council of the year. Among the items on the agenda, the creation of a public water authority. This decision continues the work started by the majority, which voted there is an end to the public service delegation contract for Eau du Grand Lyon (Véolia structure). “This means that the distribution and management of water will no longer be entrusted to a private company. The objective is to better control the water resource, preserve its quality, guarantee its availability for all”, indicates the Metropolis to explain this point. The aim will be to establish metropolitan policy on this issue over the period 2021-2035.
A decision rendered
In a press release, the association Eau Bien Commun is “to rejoice” of this upcoming vote. “Eau Bien Commun Lyon Métropole has been mobilizing for years to restore the production and distribution of drinking water to public management”. She believes that this choice makes it possible to “protect” water as well as “ensure availability and quality for the entire population”. The association hopes that this vote will also make it possible to go further in Lyon’s policy in water management: “Water has a fundamental social function. We will have to decide on the establishment of social and environmental pricing. The first free cubic meters for all can be a first step”. Case to follow tomorrow, online at the site of the Metropolis.
