Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival canceled again in 2022
It won’t be this time either. Already reported this year due to the health crisis, the 45th edition of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, which was to be held from January 22 to 30, 2022, has been postponed to 2023, its organizers announced.
“We assessed the situation during a meeting with the main government and in agreement with them, we came to the result that the risk was too great. We wanted the party to happen under more or less normal circumstances, said Urs Pilz, vice-president of the festival, on Friday. There was uncertainty over the arrival of our artists, who come in particular from Ukraine and Russia and other countries classified in the red zone. It was the last moment to warn them, ”he added.
The fourth cancellation in its history
This is the fourth time since its creation in 1974 that this festival, which has established itself as the world showcase for the best traditional circus acts, has been canceled. This had been the case after the accidental death of Princess Grace in 1982, during the Gulf War in 1991 and, due to the health crisis, this year.
This festival, in which Princess Stéphanie is very involved, is presented as the largest circus event in the world with a gathering of more than 200 artists from twenty different countries. For the Principality, the direct benefits avoid 5 million euros in hotel costs, sound or light technicians and security.
