Indoor versatility to Robin Gödel –
Thunderous applause for Robin Godel at the indoor event in Geneva, where the Swiss left Olympic champions Michael Jung and Andrew Hoy behind.
Robin Godel won the indoor eventing at the CHI Geneva in the saddle of the 13-year-old Swiss warm-blooded horse Grandeur de Lully CH.
The course in the huge Palexpo exhibition hall (and through a tunnel with a detour to the neighboring hall) is impressive: 1150 meters long, 26 obstacles, 35 jumps including a water with a low jump in front of it. In the test, it is not whoever finishes the fastest who wins, but whoever has the fewest penalty points on the account. And there are penalty points not only for a refusal or a runaway, but also if you exceed or fall short of the best time.
Robin Godels Grandeur de Lully, incidentally a grandson of Christine Stückelberger’s Olympic dressage horse Gaugin de Lully, delivered a fast, safe lap. The clock stops at 150.70 seconds. Karim Florent Laghouag in the saddle of the 18-year-old Anglo-Arab Punch de l’Esques AA. So the victory went to Gödel and second place to Laghouag.
Third, to the enthusiasm of the audience, was another Swiss woman: the 21-year-old Nadja Minder died, who died a few months ago. She finished eleventh at the European Championships for young riders in the saddle of Toblerone – a fitting name for a top Swiss horse. Today, however, Minder bet on the experienced 17-year-old chestnut mare Aquila B, who crossed the finish line in 153.77 seconds.
By far the fastest couple of the evening were Maxime Livio and the 17-year-old Irishman Boleybawn Prince, an old friend from Germany, because the Colin Diamond son once went under Dirk Schrade. With his wonderfully flowing canter he flew over the course, perfectly managed by his experienced French rider. The clock stops at 145.65 seconds.
Michael Jung was introduced as the “Cavalier de Siecle” when he and the eight-year-old Irish Kilcandra Ocean Power v. Ocean View xx enters the main hall. You don’t have to be able to speak French to know what it means: The rider of the century does the honors. And fully lived up to its reputation. Without giving the young Kilcandra Ocean Power, they managed a stylistically beautiful lap that ended up sixth.
The second German couple, the former young European champion Calvin Böckmann in the saddle of the Rhenish Cassini Boy junior daughter Crunchip M, had opened the test. Due to a passerby it was place 13 for the two today.
