Monaco makes its big comeback in TV on TV in TV5 Monde
The future Monte-Carlo Riviera TV channel will be broadcast in the 200 countries covered by the international French-speaking channel.
The French-speaking channel TV5 Monde has joined a new Member State. The Principality of Monaco enters the capital of the chain and thus joins France, Canada, Quebec, Switzerland and the Federation of Wallonia.
For Le Rocher, this is the first step in a big comeback in the audiovisual world. Prince Rainier created Télé Monte-Carlo (TMC) in 1954 but sold the channel to the AB group in 1993. Today, the channel is 100% owned by the TF1 group. In 2001, the principality also claimed the RMC radio from Alain Weill. So for more than 20 years, the Rock has no longer any public audiovisual.
This lack will be combined in September 2022 with the creation of a new Monegasque public channel called Monte-Carlo Riviera TV, the contours of which have not yet been fully defined. The channel is expected to produce a TV newspaper, documentaries and talk shows on subjects close to Prince Albert’s heart: the environment, the Mediterranean, digital technology, sport and culture.
international visibility
It is this future channel which will be partly broadcast by TV5 Monde in a vast territory covering 200 countries, 404 million households and reaching 60 million viewers. TV5 Monde will take over the Monte-Carlo Riviera TV news once a day and will be able to broadcast some of the documentaries.
“On a channel broadcast by TV5 Monde, the Principality of Monaco is increasing the international visibility of its audience. It will also strengthen TV5 Monde’s resources by contributing € 4,128 million to its budget, which now stands at € 108 million.»Explains Yves Bigot, CEO of TV5 Monde.
