Locktown Berlin – the corona chronicle of a deserted capital – BZ Berlin
The lockdown gave many Berliners sleepless nights. Sascha Wendling (49) was also tormented by existential fears. But while others were rolling in bed, the city guide went out and photographed the deserted Berlin.
Now his book has been published: “Locktown – the capital”. A restless person photographs the quiet city: “I had more than enough time, as a self-employed tour operator and city guide I had nothing more to do”, he says. Photography is his hobby.
When he shows the photos to a friend, she is so enthusiastic that she gives him the idea of the book.
Wendling: “It was more of a clinch with my wife. She said that everything is empty at night anyway – but standing for 30 seconds with a long exposure on Friedrichstrasse / corner of Unter den Linden does not normally work. “
Reichstag, Kastanienallee, Brandenburger Tor: the Cologne-born father of one child has published around 95 photos with quotes on the pandemic in the Goldelse publishing house, which he founded himself.
But do people even want to sit down on the sofa with a book and deal with the lockdown again?
“Certainly not all, but many of them, I am surprised how positive the response has been so far,” said Wendling.
