Vikings Liza Sajn will represent Slovenia at the European U20 Cross Country Championships on Sunday
DUBLIN – This fall, Portland’s state running program was represented for the first time in its history at the NCAA Division I Championship, as Katie Camarena qualified and ranked 70th. Sajn, originally from Logatec in Slovenia, will run as one of five members of the Slovenian team in the 4k U20 at 10.28 local time / 2.28 Pacific time.
The continental stage of the European Championship will be a step forward for Sajnova, although she came to the state of Portland with rich experience at the national level within Slovenia. Sajn won the 3,000 meters at the Slovenian Under-23 Championships in 2020 and placed second in the distance in 2021. As a first-grader for the Vikings this fall, Sain ranked fourth or higher in the Viking lineup at every meeting she competed in. Sajn finished third in the Vikings and 22nd overall in the Big Sky Championship, helping the Vikings set a program record with third team place. Sain also finished third in the Vikings, while in the NCAA West Regional he finished in 60th place, where the Vikings equaled the program record with 11th place out of 35 teams.
