Two young men from the Republic of Moldova were detained on Tuesday by the police of the Criminal Investigation Service within the Sălaj County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), on charges of illegal access to a computer system, fraudulent financial operations and computer fraud, according to Agerpres.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, by the Romanian Police, on September 28, a young man, 21 years old, from Bobota commune, allegedly exhibited a good for sale, on a platform, activity as a result of which . he was contacted by unknown persons, who, under the pretext that they wanted to purchase the respective good, through a link, would have asked him to fill in the information regarding the card data, and then 2,990 lei were withdrawn from his card.
“The police were notified, and, following the specialized investigations carried out, it turned out that the amount had been withdrawn by a 23-year-old man from Bihor County, and the detained acts were allegedly committed with the complicity of two young people, by 24 and 25 years old, from the Republic of Moldova “, it is shown in the mentioned communiqué.
According to the quoted source, the police conducted, on Tuesday, searches at a student dormitory, where the two persons are accommodated, from the Republic of Moldova.
“As a result of the searches, approximately 5,000 prepaid books were found and seized, of which almost 3,000 were used, five active / functional modems at the time of the search, a laptop and mobile terminals, which are believed to be was used in the criminal activity “, it is also shown in the mentioned communiqué.
The three men were taken, on Tuesday, to the IPJ Sălaj headquarters, and, following the hearings, the measure of detention was taken, for 24 hours, against the two young men, from the Republic of Moldova.
The action benefited from the support of the Special Operations Directorate and the Central Intelligence Analysis Unit within the Romanian Police, with the support of the criminal investigation police officers from Bihor and Arad.
Investigations are continuing for illegal access to a computer system, fraudulent financial transactions and computer fraud, in order to document the entire criminal activity.
