Rotterdam more successful in Brussels than Amsterdam
Using a database, the Bossche bureau ERAC inventoried for Domestic Governance where exactly in our country the EU subsidies from the 2014-2020 program period ended up. With 4.7 billion euros, the provinces of South Holland, North Holland and Utrecht will receive more than half of that total amount of 8.5 billion. To put it in perspective, the three provinces remain at just over 700 million euros.
Active on subsidy market
Zooming in on the Randstad, it is noticeable that South Holland North Holland is backwards. The municipality of Rotterdam is good for almost 40 million euros in EU subsidies. leave Amsterdam behind. Of all Dutch municipalities, Rotterdam is also the most active in the European subsidy market. The municipality participates in no fewer than 42 EU projects.
International orientation
The score in South Holland could not have been much higher if more municipalities there orientated water more internationally. An in-depth study by ERAC showed that Rotterdam and Delft have many such ties, but otherwise the map of South Holland shows many white spots. In comparison with central municipalities of the same amount in other provinces, the cities of Alsa and Gorinchem do little or nothing to participate in European start-up projects.
In addition to establishing international ties, continuous attention and having specialists on the official work floor are important success factors.
