Lisbon Stock Exchange closes in red with BCP and EDP Renováveis pressuring – Stock Exchange
The Lisbon stock exchange ended a session this Wednesday on a low, on a day marked by corrections in the main European markets. The PSI-20, national benchmark, fell 0.97% to 5,513.40 points, with BCP and EDP Renováveis recording significant losses and only four of the 19 listed to contradict. Novabase was leading the losses of the PSI-20, with a devaluation of 3.46% to 5.02 euros per share. Closely following the trend was the BCP, which fell 2.44% to 0.14 euros. The bank led by Miguel Maya thus extended the tennegative trend of the last session, following strong gains in bank stocks earlier in the week.
EDP Renováveis was the third listed company that fell the most at the close of this session. the electric of Michael Stilwell lost 1.71% to 21.90 euros. Standing out in the energy sector with losses above 1% were also Galp Energia (which stumbled 1.53%), Greenvolt (-1.09%) and REN (-1%).
Semapa, which was the company that stood out the most at the opening, fell by 1.53%, and Sonae devalued by 1.55%.
On the other hand, a Navigator a rose by around 1% to 3.27 euros per share.
Investors are wary of omicron
In the rest of Europe, the main squares also closed in negative territory, correcting the gains of the last session. The Stoxx 600, which includes the main European listed companies, gave 0.37%, while the German DAX index recovered 0.78%, the French CAC-40 devalued 0.72%, and the Spanish IBEX lost 0.90%.
This downward correction in capital markets reveals that investors remain “cautious” about the micron, despite this Wednesday, Pfizer revealed that the third dose of vaccine against covid-19 is needed to “neutralize” omicron and protect against severe cases of the disease.
Pressure on European stock exchanges is also the announcement that the UK must adopt new restrictive measures to curb new omicron cases in the country. The requirement for a digital certificate and the return to teleworking are some measures on the table. The measures taken are expected to be announced this afternoon.
