Liechtenstein’s U17s know their opponents in qualification – Liechtenstein
NYON – The qualifying phase for the 2023 European Under-17 Championship was drawn at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon. Liechtenstein was divided into Pot D and will face Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine and Azerbaijan in the Group 2 qualifying tournament next year.
Between October 24 and 30, 2022, the Liechtenstein U17 national team will play their three games in the qualifying tournament in Bosnia-Herzegovina next year. The two cities of Mostar and Zenica are currently being discussed as hosts.
In the U17 age group, there has only been one encounter with Azerbaijan a on the occasion of a development tournament in 2016. It is difficult to assess the strength of this group at this point in time. “At these junior tournaments it always depends on the strength of the age groups who are eligible to play. And that can vary greatly from year to year,” summed up LFV sports director Rene Pauritsch shortly after the draw. Due to the division of the pot, Bosnia-Herzegovina can be considered the strongest team, as they always have strong players in their ranks. “Ukraine currently has strong offspring across all ages and shows this again and again at the finals,” continued Pauritsch. And Liechtenstein is always a kind of feared opponent for Azerbaijan, “as you saw with the historic victory of the U21 national team last year. We want to prove that in 2022”, the LFV sports director concludes his preview.
