Farewell to Luigi Cal, former director for Italy and San Marino of the United Nations International Labor Organization. The funeral will be held tomorrow in Ramera
He was lacking in the affection of his loved ones and of all the people who knew him, on Monday in Rome, Luigi Calì, former director for Italy and San Marino of the International Labor Organization (ILO), United Nations agency, former director of the International Department of the CISL and member of the Executive Committee of the European Confederation of Trade Unions (Ces) and of the International Confederation of Trade unions (Ituc – Cis).
Originally from Lutrano, a hamlet of Fontanelle where he was born in 1949, Cal spent most of his life in the capital after spending his youth in Mareno di Piave, where his relatives still reside..
Many remember him for his commitment to defending the rights of workers around the world and promoting solidarity initiatives in favor of the nascent trade unions in Poland and Brazil.
He had a simple and reserved nature (few were aware of his illness) and was also highly appreciated in Mareno di Piave. Every time he returned home, the funeral will be celebrated in the parish of the hamlet tomorrow Thursday at 3 pm, a testimony of the bond that Cal had continued to have with the town.
Great condolences from the CISL Belluno Treviso for “the disappearance of a great man before a great trade unionist like Luigino – he writes in a note Massimiliano Paglini, general secretary of the CISL Belluno Treviso – for the CISL and for all of us it is an unbridgeable loss. His life was marked by his commitment to defending the rights of the weakest and to the justice of peoples and workers. We will have to do everything so that they are engraved in memory as a witness and guide for the women and men of the CISL of today and tomorrow.“.
