CROSS-COUNTRY: University athletes from all over France will explain themselves in Dijon
The French university cross country championships will take place in Dijon this Thursday, December 9. Around 700 runners are expected.
The French FFSU (Fédération Française du Sport Universitaire) cross-country championship has been held every year since 1920 in different universities in France. After having hosted the world championships in 1992 and the French championships in 2014, the University of Burgundy is proud to once again host an event of such magnitude.
This national competition has the best athletes from each university, previously qualified during the academic championship, and serves as a qualification for the world championship. It is therefore a major issue for the participants.
Thus, all French students (DOM-TOM included) will meet in Dijon on December 9th. Around 700 runners are expected.
The competition
Around 700 athletes will defend their chances of joining the French team in 2 different disciplines:
– The individual race which has two categories:
Young people (8000 m).
Young girls (5000 m).
– The mixed relay (4000 m) by 4 with 2 girls and 2 boys by sports association of each university.
The objective, in both events, is to finish the race in the shortest possible time and therefore to achieve the shortest possible time.
The classification by faculty will be done by means of a point counting system.
The timing will be ensured by an electronic chip system hidden behind the bib.
For the occasion, Fabien Palcau, a great champion of the discipline and from Dijon, will be present as the event’s sponsor. The opportunity for the athletes present to meet the former European team cross champion in the U23 category. A real inspiration in sport, since he has just announced his ambition to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. He has a lot of achievements: 2nd in the French 5000m championship in 2020, 6th in the European cross country championship in 2019 and many other remarkable performances.
The program
– 1.15 p.m .: young ladies course.
– 2 p.m .: course for young people.
– 3 p.m .: mixed relay by team.
The event will take place on the Dijon campus, near the Colette Besson athletics stadium, next to the UFR STAPS. The entrance to the stadium is in front of the sports center.
The organization
The event is prepared by the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté du Sport Universitaire league and the students of the L3 Sport Management promotion from STAPS Dijon, highlighting Dijon’s know-how and rigor.
This branch of the UFR STAPS, born in 2016, is in full development. Being able to organize an event of such magnitude is an opportunity for the students who can thus develop their skills in the field.
Diffusion
The race will be broadcast live on the social network Facebook. Thus, the family, coaches and relatives of the runners can follow during their performance.
This multi-camera broadcast project is a great first and requires careful preparation and staff.
It’s a good way to differentiate yourself from “lives”, major trends in social networks but which remain on fixed camera shots.
A commentator will host the broadcast from the sports center.
