San Marino. Canicross, silver medal for Paola Carinato and Icy
“The 1st Villaggio della Salute Più Trophy took place on December 4th and 5th in Monterenzio, a selective competition for the ICF 2022 Canicross World Cup to be held in Pledran (France).
The path made muddy by the rain put a strain on the more than 80 pairs who faced the 4.2 km of the cross-country course. The all-San Marino duo was present, made up of Paola Carinato and Icy, a 4-year-old border collie (born in San Marino from San Marino parents). On the first day of competition, the cold and the mud were the masters and Paola and Icy reached the finish line in a time of 19’41 ”, third place in the day’s ranking.
The second day of competition reserved for the competitors a milder temperature, but even more muddy terrain. The start was given by order of arrival after the first race. Paola and Icy set off in search of the result, managing to improve by over 30 seconds and grabbing the second step of the podium.
A lot of satisfaction for the athlete Paola Carinato: “I am very happy with Icy’s behavior in the race, who interpreted the course in the best possible way without my intervening too much with voice commands. He skilfully pulled me out of the mud and didn’t let himself be distracted by overtaking. “
The next appointment will be on December 26, where both will participate in the 3x1km canicross relay, in anticipation of the qualifications for the 2022 Canicross World Championship.
