Russia in November increased gas transit through Ukraine to the EU

It is noted that the average daily volume of Russian gas transported through the country is up to 102 million cubic meters. According to the head of the “GTS Operator” Sergei Makogon, Ukraine is able to increase transit by 2.5 times.
“There was a certain manipulation, when transit at the beginning of the month decreased to 57 million cubic meters per day, and then increased to 109 million cubic meters provided by the transit agreement. For comparison, in the same period in 2020, gas transit amounted to 178 million cubic meters per day, in 2019 – 277 million cubic meters per day.
Gas transit through Ukraine to the EU in October decreased by 19%, to 2.6 billion cubic meters, compared with September, the figure decreased by 623 million cubic meters.
The current transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine, concluded for five years, provides for transit in 2021-2024 at 40 billion cubic meters per year. Moreover, Gazprom pays for the capacity regardless of the actual measurements across the Ukrainian territory.
