Robber threatens on the street with scissors (Berchem)
The Antwerp police arrested a 22-year-old man on Monday evening who had robbed two people in the street. Each time he threatens the victim with scissors. The perpetrator is no stranger to the police.
The man makes his first victim in the Arbeidersstraat in Berchem. “A man who was walking his dog had to hand over his mobile phone, his bank cards and money under threat of scissors,” the police said. He arrived on the scene and was able to locate the suspect in the vicinity of Antwerp-Berchem station thanks to the GPS function of the stolen mobile phone.
There, the police received a new report of a hiker who was also threatened by a man with scissors. “There too, the suspects are trying to steal the mobile phone and the bank cards. He is trying to withdraw money from the victim with his bank card,” the police said.
Several intervention patrols arrived on the scene. The suspect was intercepted by the police near Stanley Street. “He was in possession of two scissors and the stolen items. The 22-year-old man turned out to be no stranger to the police and was arrested with a view to arraignment.” jtp
