Innsbruck – Suddenly it was dark inside too. Elevators got stuck, garage doors closed, coffee machines cold. The reason was a “blackout” – at exactly 7:22 a.m. field in 15,000 Innsbruck households, companies and institutions in the districts of Saggen, Reichenau, Wilten, Hötting and Innsbruck-West ran out of power. “A defect in the substation in Pastorstrasse triggered the power outage,” says Roland Tiwald from Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe (IKB): “Strictly speaking, it was a malfunction in the control system that led to a chain shutdown.” eight minutes back on the light. “The employees in our maintenance department were able to quickly correct the malfunction of the computer,” continues Diwald. About ten percent of patients need more patience. “They had to switch over, and that took about an hour,” explains the IKB employee.
The fire brigades were particularly challenged: a fire broke out in a boiler room in the west of Innsbruck and several people were freed from six elevators.
The police radio control center was not affected by the power failure. In the control center Tyrol for rescue, fire brigade and Co. Feld, on the other hand, the power is off. However, the emergency generator kept operations going. The sophisticated security system also worked in the Innsbruck clinic. A total of 18 emergency power generators compensated for the power failure within a few seconds. (tom)
