Her name is Elly Mattiuzzo and the 18-year-old who lost her life in the car accident on Saturday night in San Marino was an ice skating promise: in 2019 she had already taken part in the Junior World Championships in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
It was a promise of synchronized skating Elly Mattiuzzo, the 18-year-old from Milan who lost her life in the car accident in San Marino on Saturday night. With her was her boyfriend Daniele Volanti: both died instantly in the crash that involved two other cars. Elly had moved to San Marino after being born in Milan and having attended the Parini classical high school. She then continued her studies in Riccione where she was a Volta-Fellini art student. But her great passion was ice skating and she was already reaping successes and satisfactions: she had been among the skaters who competed for the Hot Shivers – Sesto San Giovanni club recognized by the Coni and Fisg federations – and in 2019 she had already taken part at the Junior World Championships in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The young woman had told everything on her social pages. On her Instagram page, Elly talked about her successors and her life. Now her profile is flooded with messages from friends and acquaintances who wanted to say goodbye to her: “Teach the angels to skate – reads a comment in the girl’s last public post – your friends and I will skate from now on for you too. Smash everything up there too. “
The violent car accident with her boyfriend
From one of the two boys, the boyfriend was originally from Modena but born in Rimini, they were aboard their 500 traveling on the Pedemontana towards Castello di Murata, San Marino area: at a certain point the car – for other reasons to be ascertained – invaded the opposite lane where another car was arriving. The impact was inevitable: the 18-year-old’s car crumpled up and there was nothing left for the two to do. The rescue services on the scene of the accident were useless, the young couple died instantly. Immediately after the front there was a rear-end collision with the other cars arriving at that moment. In a few seconds the call to 118 was triggered but nothing helped to save the couple’s life. Other motorists were injured but not in danger of life, also thanks to the outbreak of the front and side airbags. The Pedemontana on Saturday evening had been closed in both directions to allow for such journeys. Now the police are working to understand the cause that led the couple to invade the other lane.
