The head of the EU’s Political and Security Committee called it a worrying area around Ukraine
The development of Ukraine’s eastern borders with Russia will be based on military forces, a deep response in the EU and in Ukraine itself, so the EU must respond to it based on facts, intelligence analysis and cooperation with partners and allies such as the United States.
This was stated in the European Parliament during a hearing in the Subcommittee on Security and Defense by the newly appointed chairman of the EU Policy and Security Committee, Ambassador Dolphin Pronk, – said a Ukrinform correspondent.
This is how he answered the question of the participant of that price, MEP Petras Austravicius, whether the EU intends to respond from Russia’s threats against Ukraine to a more proactive policy to convey information about the likelihood of aggression and deter it.
“Unconditionally, the military build-up on the eastern border of Ukraine is a great concern, which we all share. In Ukraine, too, this feature is very serious. So, I expect it will be one of the issues to be discussed at the forthcoming European Council, “the diplomat said.
“In what I am our message, I would not define this policy as reactive. We need to make such a message, substantiating the facts, on the analysis of intelligence. Two days ago, we agreed on measures for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which in itself reflects our assistance services to Ukraine, “Pronk said.
She also suggested that she consider this context in the context of the wider Eastern Partnership and the way in which the EU interacts with its neighbors in the east. Supporting dynamic cooperation, in particular, in the implementation is an important component of increasing the resilience of partners, in particular – Ukraine, which, along with the security component, a party to the same policy is the country of the region.

“Last week, a dialogue between the EU and the US on security and defense was launched. This was a very positive signal for our transatlantic partnership. This also concerns the problem of military build-up on the eastern border of Ukraine. Of course, we – friends, allies and partners – have an echo to respond to the message of one. Presidents Biden and Putin will hold bilateral talks later this week. Of course, we must ensure the synchronization of positions with our partners, “Pronk said.
She noted that when the EU worked out the fifth package of sanctions against the Belarusian regime, such coordination of positions with international partners and synchronization of messages took place. The EU will continue its own needs wherever possible to strengthen its voice in the world.
According to the meeting, on December 2, the EU approved a package of assistance from the official European Fund for Security and Defense Assistance to Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Mali. Under the program, Ukraine receives € 31 million in EU assistance over a 36-month period.
These EU measures aim to support Ukraine’s resilience and strengthen its Healthy Forces to provide assistance to civilians in emergencies. We are talking about the financing of military medicine units, including field hospitals, engineering and technical units, as well as the structure of cyber defense.
