(ANSA) – FLORENCE, DECEMBER 06 – The exhibition will start on Tuesday 7 December, showing in Florence over 200 works including paintings, drawings, illustrations and ceramics by Galileo Chini (Florence 1873-1956). The exhibition, entitled ‘Galileo Chini and European Symbolism’, will be visible until 25 April 2022 at Villa Bardini which reopens the exhibition spaces with the initiative dedicated to the Florentine painter, illustrator and ceramist. Focused on Chini’s early years, which made him famous internationally, the exhibition is curated by Fabio Benzi and is promoted by the Cr Firenze Foundation and the Bardini and Peyron Monumental Parks Foundation.

In the exhibition there are works of the artistic environment between French and Central European symbolism, between Pre-Raphaelism and secessions, which see Chini’s path intertwined with that of artists such as Auguste Rodin, Gustav Klimt, Max Klinger, Ferdinand Hodler, William de Morgan, Walter Crane, Aubrey Beardsley, Gaetano Previati, Giovanni Segantini, Odilon Redon, Ferdinand Khnopff, Félix Vallotton and Pierre Bonnard. The exhibition examines the first 20 years of Chini’s artistic life, among the works on display there are some masterpieces such as the ‘Pre-Raphaelite’ vases of the very first phase, some masterpieces present at the 1900 Paris International Exposition, the red luster vase with trees from 1902 and the large cache-pot with chameleons.

“We are pleased that with this great exhibition Villa Bardini can also reopen as a center dedicated to art and culture in Florence – commented Luigi Salvadori, president of the Cr Firenze Foundation and Jacopo Speranza, president of the Bardini and Peyron Monumental Parks Foundation -. The exhibition celebrates the figure of a great Florentine artist, who was able to distinguish himself on the international scene by drawing on and at the same time contaminating the artistic era in which he established himself “.
