TOULOUSE

Exclusive: what Agnès Jaoui wants to do as President of the Cinémathèque de Toulouse

Sugar Mizzy December 6, 2021

the essential
Within a week, the news should be made official by the Toulouse Cinémathèque. Agnès Jaoui will become its president for a period of 3 years.

The actress, director, screenwriter, author (1), Agnès Jaoui will occupy the seat of president of the Board of Directors of the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, following the mandate of director Robert Guédiguian in office since 2016. Barely a few weeks after the end of the shooting of Frédéric Sojcher’s film, “The Course of Life” in which she plays the role of Noémie, screenwriter who comes to give a course in the city’s film school – in this case at Ensav in Toulouse -, Agnès Jaoui will respond within a few days to the invitation launched by the venerable film institution of the Pink City. Especially since, a few weeks ago, the actress did not hide her joy at finding Toulouse: “I have already come here to follow the Cinespaña festival and, in Toulouse, we are not far from Spain so there is something has chosen that touches me. And I remember being place singing with Zebda on July 14th. I really felt like I was flying, being suspended in the air of joy, of jubilation, on stage when the whole crowd was singing Motivated. ”

Transmission of treasures

Happy and enthusiastic, she was already taking the full measure of the load: “First, it is an important film library, the second in France, and the collection of 53,000 films, over 100,000 posters, over 500 000 photos and thousands of other documents contain treasures! I hope that we will do festive things and that rest people because it matters. The idea of transmitting to young people is important, and not only to Parisians who benefit from networks very early on in their careers from kindergarten and at school since almost all of the profession lives in the Paris region. I want to do “towards” and “with” young people from here who do not necessarily know films, cinema and even less the history of cinema. “We know the woman of conviction and the importance she gives to ideas and words at a particular moment in the history of our society:” I think that young people need us and even more now. They were very bruised by this pandemic and telling them over and over again that we are going to die, as we know, it is anxiety-provoking and unbearable. So I’m also very happy that I can be of use to something. »Welcome Agnès Jaoui!

(1) César Award for Best Original Screenplay or Adaptation with Jean-Pierre Bacri for “Smoking / No Smoking” by Alain Resnais (1994), “Un Air de famille” by Cédric Klapisch (1997), “We know the song” d ‘Alain Resnais (1998). César for best French film of the year and César for best French film of the year for “Le Goût des autres” (2001). César for Best Supporting Actress in “We know the song” (1998)…
