Trains faster again in Hamburg and Cologne
Berlin – Rail passengers between Berlin and Hamburg will be on the road again in their usual travel time from next weekend. On Sunday (December 12th) the high-speed line will be back on the network after three months of construction work. Trains no longer have to be rerouted. With the timetable change on Sunday, the Zoo station WILL also become a long-distance station again. Sprinter trains to and from Cologne / Bonn should also stop there in the mornings and evenings.
The train station in western Berlin has not been a regular stop for long-distance traffic for 15 years – the train station has been operating since 2018. In 2006 the long-distance train stops at the zoo were carefully abandoned at the new main station.
No more direct connection from Dresden via Berlin to Sylt
With its sprinters, Deutsche Bahn will attract people who would otherwise use domestic flights. In the future, ICE trains will run between Berlin and Cologne three times a day without stopping in under four hours and thus up to half an hour faster than before. Between Hamburg and Berlin there should be 60 journeys a day again in the future. An evening ICE connection between Berlin and Dresden is new. The IC line from Rostock still exists.
The direct train from Dresden via Berlin to Westerland on Sylt is no longer available – a mistake, as the Pro Bahn passenger association says. “We need significantly more direct connections in tourist traffic,” said honorary chairman Karl-Peter Naumann. Holidays in Germany are trendy, they shouldn’t just be by car. Rügen alone is really well connected to the Baltic Sea.
Construction work on routes of the Berlin S-Bahn
Small changes are pending in regional traffic. The RB35 Fürstenwalde-Bad Saarow drives in the health resort not only to the clinic, but to the Pieskow district, as announced by the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association. Scharmützelsee excursionists could also benefit from this.
There will be major restrictions on the RE1 (Magdeburg-Berlin-Frankfurt (Oder) -Cottbus) in the course of the year due to construction work near Frankfurt. Construction is also to be carried out on the RE2 (Cottbus-Berlin-Wittenberge-Wismar) and on numerous lines of the Berlin S-Bahn. It said that blockages will be informed in good time.
Anyone who still jumps in a short-circuited train will have to be prepared for an important change at Deutsche Bahn after the timetable change: There are no longer any paper tickets from the conductors. Spontaneous beginners will in future have to book their tickets quickly on their laptop or mobile phone, ten minutes will be left for it.
