«The start of this construction site is a historic day for Pisa – declares the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti -. As we announced, the works started by the end of 2021 to arrive at the inauguration of the new bridge in December 2022. It is a work that has been waiting for years, which redesigns the mobility between two parts of the city that are disconnected from each other. The new walkway, which will give great impetus to gentle mobility, will allow Riglione to be easily connected to the Cisanello hospital center and to the entire northern part of the city, without necessarily using the car ». «The first step towards the realization of a dream – added the president of the regional council Antonio Mazzeo -. In 2015, together with my colleagues elected in the Pisan area, I strongly wanted the Region to co-finance this project presented by the municipal administration of the time. I bring greetings from the president Eugenio Giani and I express great satisfaction ».
The new bridge is designed to allow in the event of an extraordinary emergency, such as the closure of the Ponte delle Bocchette to traffic, the transit of ambulances and emergency vehicles. On the Cisanello side, a stretch of viaduct is foreseen that will connect the walkway, via a ramp, to the cycle / pedestrian path that develops behind the hospital along the embankment, from where it will continue in connection with Viale delle Piagge. From the Riglione side, the bridge will reconnect to via Malatesta, through a raised ramp, positioned parallel to the river.
