Overflows and stoppage of the derby between Standard and Charleroi in Belgium
The match of the 17th day of the Belgian championship between Standard de Liège and Charleroi was definitively stopped in the 88th minute following the throws of smoke and a flood of the Liège fans on Sunday evening.
While Charleroi was leading (3-0), the referee sent the players back to the locker room while several local supporters were hired on the pitch in front of the stand occupied by the fans. “Carolos”, forcing several dozen police officers to intervene.
The meeting had already been temporarily interrupted shortly after the hour of play after the first throws of pyrotechnic devices in the direction of the players, the supporters “Rouches” not hesitating to target their own goalkeeper, Arnaud Bodart.
The match referee then decided, as procedure dictates, to stop the match for good. According to the regulations of the Belgian championship, Standard should lose on a forfeit (0-3) and be fined 50,000 euros.
Standard, which has been experiencing a sporting and financial crisis for several weeks, occupies only 13th place in the standings while Charleroi is in fourth position in a championship currently planned by the Union Saint-Gilloise, promulgated in D1 this season.
