Portugal registers another 22 deaths and 5,649 new cases of covid
Portugal registered, in 24 hours, 5,649 new cases of covid-19 and 22 deaths associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).
There weren’t that many new cases of infection since February 6th. On that date there were 6,158 hospitalized, of which 891 were in the ICU. And 214 people died.
The report Saturday (December 4th) indicates that there are now 879 people interned, 23 fewer than the day before. That is, a series of 27 days of ascent was broken.
As for patients in intensive care units, there is one more than yesterday, now at 130.
Since March 10, there have not been as many deaths as in the last 24 hours.
At the moment, there are over 2,394 active cases and over 2,725 under surveillance and over 3,233 people recovered from the disease.
The northern region has the highest increase in cases, 1775, and which registers more deaths, in case seven. It is closely followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 1669 new cases of infection and five deaths. The central region has over 1474 covid-19 cases and four deaths. The Algarve has 383 more and the Alentejo 140, and in both regions there are no deaths to register.
In the autonomous region of Madeira there are over 138 cases of the disease and two have died, and in the Azores there are 40, without any deaths.
Algarve municipalities cancel New Year’s Eve festivities
These numbers come on the day that the 16 municipalities of the Algarve decided to cancel New Year’s Eve parties because they were not met as conditions to comply with measures to contain covid-19, announced the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) .
In a statement, AMAL said that the decision “was agreed at a meeting of the intermunicipal council”, on Friday, given the “pandemic context that is currently being experienced and the recent epidemiological evolution”.
“Even if these outdoor realization initiatives, as they obey a DGS realization set [Direção-Geral da Saúde] that the mayors claim that there are no conditions to be fulfilled, since they imply a great concentration of people”, the note reads.
Germany. Incidence and deaths go up
An incident of the new coronavirus in Germany stands this Saturday at 442.7 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, rising on Friday, the death toll from the disease increased to 378.
According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), this morning, today’s numbers compare with Friday’s 438.2, after the peak of 452.4 on Monday, but the incidence is less than 444 , 3 registered a week ago.
The number of deaths increased, standing at 378 cases in the last 24 hours, which represents a 25% increase compared to the 303 deaths registered a week ago.
Germany registered 64,510 new infections in the last 24 hours, down from 67,125 registered a week ago.
Portugal delivers to Guinea-Bissau
100,000 more vaccines
On Friday, Portugal handed over 100,000 vaccines from Astrazeneca against covid-19 to Guinea-Bissau authorities, the Portuguese embassy in Bissau said today in a statement.
“Portugal added to Guinea-Bissau a new batch of 100,000 vaccines against covid-19, together with the material necessary to make its administration viable, including syringes and needles, which were delivered by the Portuguese Embassy to the Guinean health authorities”, can read the statement posted on the diplomatic representation’s Facebook page.
Portugal has already offered Guinea-Bissau a total of 200,000 vaccines donated as part of the Portuguese political commitment to make at least 5% of its vaccines available to African Countries with Portuguese Official Language (PALOP) and Timor-Leste.
