Portugal did not vote for Ronaldo for the Golden Ball
AN France Football revealed this Saturday as legal for the Golden Ball and Kopa awards. Those chosen on the Portuguese side have been talked about.
Starting with Bola d’Or, an international press has been surprised by the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s choices for Bola d’Or, whose first choice was Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté, followed by Lewandowski, Mbappé, Jorginho and Salah. In fact, Cristiano Ronaldo was voted best in the world by just eight countries. They were Macau, Cayman Islands, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Kyrgyzstan, Mozambique, Central African Republic and Turkey.
As for the Kopa award, which distinguishes the best under-21 player playing in Europe, it was revealed that CR7 and Luís Figo voted for Nuno Mendes, but not for the award winner. The two Portuguese placed the young Paris Saint-Germain player in second place in the respective polls. CR7 chose teammate Mason Greenwood as the winner, while Luís Figo chose Barcelona’s Pedri. Nuno Mendes was fourth in the final ranking.
The Golden Ball 2021 was won by Lionel Messi, who was ahead of Robert Lewandowski. It was the seventh Golden Ball for the Argentine.
