Halsema about affordable housing: “A city without young people is no longer a city for Amsterdam”
Will Mayor Femke Halsema take action against the oat milk elite? And will people in their twenties still be able to live here in five out of ten years? This and other partserthrow discuss the young people of We Are Amsterdam in a conversation with the mayor.
In recent years, young Amsterdammers without media experience have had the opportunity to make items for AT5 on topics that interest them. At the end of this project, go ten makers of Wij zmy Amsterdam talking to the mayor.
You don’t want to live in a city where the mayor will think something about whether or not to drink oat milk
Many Amsterdammers see city districts changing due to the arrival of new residents, such as the pictures ‘oat milk elite‘. those are ythose who listen to podcasts, take expensive sports lessons edrink oat milk. A group formulation summy old Amsterdammers are annoyed beyond measure.
Kiki Bosman asked during the conversation with the mayor of the municipality something can doeN to the dichotomy that arises in some neighbourhoods. after the mayorer Halsema confessed that she drinks cow’s milk, she states that she will not act against the oat milk elite. “Not much can be done about that. That is part of a city. Mayor of the college will find something about whether or not to drink oat milk.”
“I spend a lot of time in Zuidoost and I love it there. It broit there and I think it’s sparkling”
Kevin Roethof (also known as QuatroByVeks) lives in Zuidoost and says it hurts him when he gets reactions about his district. Femke Halsema recognizes that there are often negative messages from Zuidoost, but also turned out to be a fan: “I don’t know any district that has such a strong identity and is also so proud. I spend a lot of time in Zuidoost and I love it there. I have the feeling that the image is also slowly changing and it is actually the people from Zuidoost themselves who contribute to this, such as beautiful examples such as Patta, New Originals, Bims and Oskam.” Besides helping Mayor Halsema Kevin by proudly telling about Zuidoost at every opportunity she has.
“The college is currently working hard to see if young people in Amsterdam can be given priority in the housing market compared to others”
Of course, housing was also an important topic during the conversation with the mayor. Do you want the young people to still live here in five or ten years’ time? “Much more housing for young people will be added, but it is still too little,” says Mayor Halsema. “The college is currently working hard to look at young people in Amsterdam who can be given priority in the housing market over others. But Amsterdam is an open and city and you don’t want to put a fence around it. It is important that young people continue to meet the needs. For Amsterdam, a city without young people is no longer a city.”

What is We Are Amsterdam?
In We Are Amsterdam we make stories from the neighborhood that are created and conceived by young Amsterdammers between the ages of 18 and 28. They are prepared to participate in this project and through their eyes we want to show what is going on in the city, in their neighbourhood. They do this under the guidance of professionals from AT5 and every Saturday we publish a new neighborhood story. Do you have a tip or an idea? Mail to: [email protected]
