General Director of AWS says that Portugal “is on a fantastic path” – O Jornal Económico
Las Vegas was once again the stage for the Amazon Web Services (AWS) annual cloud computing event, where more than 200 companies were present with exhibitors, including the Portuguese Outsystems, which returned to Nevada to ensure that the sector company in the cloud of the Amazon group it is today its biggest technological partner (read interview at www.jornaleconomico.pt). The city’s spectacle and casino fever is inspired by the corridors of re: Invent, where around 27,000 people passed by to close deals, introduce themselves to the technology community, learn (more) about the cloud or listen to industry gurus.
In an interview with Jornal Económico (JE), the first Portuguese newspaper to be present at the re: Invent in ten years of conference, the general director of AWS for the Iberian Peninsula guarantees that “Portugal is on a fantastic path and the six unicorns are the proof of that”. “We have the office [em Lisboa] since 2018 and it has gone very well with a collaboration both with startups in Portugal, through Startup Lisboa, and with the different subsidiaries”, assured Miguel Alava.
AWS has in its hands a megalomaniac plan for Spain, worth 2.5 million euros to ten years, which should be operational in 2022 and which, according to the person responsible for the Iberian market, is also a beneficiary of Portugal. At issue is a new European infrastructure region with data processing centers in Aragon, which is estimated to increase the neighboring country’s GDP by approximately 1.8 million euros and create 1,300 new jobs over the next decade.
