“In seven days, hospitals in Occitanie have 32% of additional patients hospitalized due to a serious case of Covid”, indicated the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Occitanie on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
In the numbers, 676 hospitalizations were being hospitalized, an increase of 49 people from last week. 137 of them went into intensive care and critical care, an increase of 11 people
While the epidemic recovery has been strong for two weeks, after a start of recovery at the end of October, hospital pressure is therefore starting to be felt.
The beginning of hospital pressure
Thursday, December 2, 53% of intensive care beds in Haute-Garonne were occupied by patients with covid in our department.
Figures at Toulouse University Hospital
At Toulouse University Hospital, the increase in the number of people hospitalized after contracting covid is also on the rise.
On Friday, 75 people were hospitalized at Toulouse University Hospital for covid against 58 the previous week. 11 of them are in intensive care.
Previous photos of hospital workers
If we refer to the previous waves of the epidemic and in particular to hospital photos of the first four waves, the level of hospitalizations currently remains well below previous waves.
April 13, 2020, during the peak hospital of the first wave at the Toulouse University Hospital, 165 people were, in fact, hospitalized at the Toulouse University Hospital, which then received patients from other regions of France and who had deprogrammed many other interventions on other pathologies.
November 11, 2020, during the hospital peak of a second wave which had been felt much more strongly in Occitania than that of spring 2020, 220 people found themselves hospitalized at the Toulouse University Hospital.
Mid-February 2021, at the peak hospital of the 3rd wave, 192 people were hospitalized at Toulouse University Hospital.
August 8, 2021, at the peak hospital of the 4th wave, 146 people were hospitalized at Toulouse University Hospital.
Other interventions to manage
With 75 hospitalized for covid-19 at the Toulouse University Hospital, hospital pressure for covid is currently less than in previous waves.
However, no one knows when the peak of hospitalizations for the 5th wave will be reached and up to what level of vaccination coverage, greater than in the first waves, will allow the hospitalization curve to be flattened.
In addition, unlike previous waves, the CHU is currently facing this new increase in hospitalizations for covid while treating other pathologies.
Closed beds
Friday, December 3, the Toulouse University Hospital confirms that no non-urgent intervention has been reported or canceled as was the case during previous waves of covid and as is currently the case in other hospitals in France.
Another data to take into account, even if the Toulouse University Hospital is less concerned than other hospital sites in France, it sees approximately 3.6% of its beds currently closed for lack of staff.
