Cargo ships on fire outside Gothenburg – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country
According to Expressen it is the 177 meter long cargo ship Admiral Storni that burns. The ship is at anchor and is the last with timber, and this is what has caught fire.
– We have talked to the captain, no one has been injured so far. Everyone in the crew tries as best they can to put out their fire hoses, says rescue leader Anders Lännholm at the Norwegian Maritime Administration’s sea and air rescue center to SVT.
Strong winds in the area make the rescue work more demanding, in addition to giving more air to the fire. Previously, it seemed that the fire had stopped, but the strong fin made it flare up again.
“They are trying to turn the ship around so that the fins will have less grip,” Agne Hörnestig at the Swedish Maritime Administration told Swedish Radio at 4.45 pm.
A rescue helicopter is in the area and is ready to hoist the crew on board if required.
– It seems to be going the wrong way. As it looks now, we plan to evacuate, says Lännholm to SVT.
To the news agency TT, the same Lännholm expresses that not everyone is the only one in this.
– The captain still does not want to evacuate, we have two helicopters in the area that can lift them all up, Lännholm says to TT.
