At the call of Union Syndicale Solidaire, an Inter-Collective in Toulouse is organizing this Saturday 4 December 2021 a march against precariousness. The procession will leave from Arnaud Bernard at 2 p.m. to join the Monument aux Morts to François Verdier. About fifteen unions, collectives, organizations and even yellow vests will be present.
The objective is to state a situation of global precariousness. Today almost 10 million people live in poverty, according to INSEE. “There is in particular food insecurity. We know that more and more people are going to popular aid, to Eating from the heart or in other charities “, explains to The Independent Opinion Lalou, union member Culture SOUTH 31. The latter will be part of the procession this afternoon.
“The worst attack against Unédic since 1958”
If the objective is to tackle precariousness in all its forms, Lalou especially wishes to insist on unemployment insurance reform. For the union member, it is “the worst attack against Unédic since 1958”. In October, the first part of the reform entered into force. It concerns a new calculation method. And the 1uh December, the second shutter also entered into force. This time he returns to the conditions ofopening of rights for the unemployed. For Lalou, this reform is “unacceptable”. “In 1958, until the 1980s, we touched 90% of our pay when we were unemployed. Today, it is reduced like the skin of sorrow, “he laments.
Lalou thus claims the salary continuity for the unemployed. He hopes that this reform will be canceled. Currently a appeal, filed by the unions, examined by the Council of State since November 15. “But it might be hard“, he admits.” It is for this reason that it is necessary to be numerous to mobilize. The right to employment and the right to work go hand in hand with the right to unemployment and social rights “, he concludes.

Too high rents in Toulouse
But the question of precariousness also affects the lodging. According to Louis Conte, member of the association Right to Housing 31, it is explained by the difficulty of accessing accommodation in Toulouse. “The numbers are crazy”, he assures The Independent Opinion. “In 20 years, prices increased by 200% In Toulouse. And in 2018 alone, they increased by 6.3%. It is higher than in Paris, “he denounces. In addition, he also deplores the figures for requests in social housing.” They are increasing by 20% per year in Toulouse. And out of 40,000 people, only 10,000 have an attribution, “he explains.
The volunteer also denounces the non-consideration of charges in the calculation of the APL by CAF. “Charges are increasing much faster than rents, while APLnt has fallen since the arrival of Emmanuel Macron. This is not normal,” he adds.

Fuel poverty affects 12 million people
Finally, he prominently met the fuel poverty in social housing and the private park. Currently, 12 million people are rewarded with this type of precariousness. “Some are energy sieves,” he says. Before adding: “some live for example with windows that do not close. I know a precarious family with only one minimum wage for four people and who will spend 300 to 350 euros of heating per month. It’s scandalous, “he worries.

An unsuitable housing policy in Toulouse?
According to Louis Conte, these problems stem from the city’s housing policy. “There is a problem of will. Today, Toulouse counts 23,000 video homes as well as 2,300 offices while 4,500 people are currently on the streets “, he laments.
Through this walk, the volunteer thus demands a change in this policy. But also a rent control, the renovation of buildings and more social housing. “Because it is the current policy which is responsible for people in the street”, he concludes.
