“A friend sold his motorbike to pay for future tests”
What solutions for the unvaccinated? The question is on all the lips of people who have decided not to receive the injection against Covid-19. If the unions have obtained guarantees from the government to prevent the employees concerned from being made redundant, the CovidCheck at work will be in place from January 15.
Without accommodation measures such as teleworking, the unvaccinated will have, in the current state of affairs, only one solution: pay for antigenic tests at around twenty euros every 24 hours. While the unions are preparing for “a front so that people do not pay to go to work, nonsense”, says Nora Back of the OGBL, some workers are already preparing: “A friend of mine sold his motorcycle to anticipate. Others have broken their retirement savings plan and already put 3,000 euros aside, ”explains Walter Oliveira, musician.
Fear of compulsory vaccine
Recently cured of the Covid, he is “quiet” until April. But he also knows that his precious sesame will no longer be valid at this time. As a freelancer, he already imagines “losing contracts” and also thinks “of all people on non-vaccinated fixed-term contracts, who will probably not be renewed”. Unless the health situation improves by then “and decisions relating to CovidCheck are lightened in the spring”. An evolution on which he does not put for the moment. On the contrary, he and his peers fear a next step and the arrival of the mandatory vaccine.
Opposed in principle to this solution, the Luxembourg government had indicated at the beginning of the week “do not exclude anything”, while several European countries are seriously considering it. “They cannot do that, it is against European law”, argues Mr. Oliveira. He hopes that the challenge will prevent them from committing to this measure.
“Invest in a fake QR Code”
Equally determined not to receive the vaccine, others are considering other radical solutions to skip the injection while continuing to work and go out. “I cannot imagine my company forcing the CovidCheck on me, but it will have no choice. I don’t want to get there, but I might have to invest in a fake QR Code. For around 300 euros, I can have one, ”says Joao *.
A solution that could fizzle out. The Department of Digitalization recently updated the CovidCheck application to automatically deactivate fancy codes. What’s more, establishments such as restaurants and bars will now have to verify the identity of customers. Remember that users of fraudulent health certificates are liable to be punished from four months to five years in prison and a fine of 251 euros to 30,000 euros.
