Toulouse. Supported by associations, 39 homeless occupy a gymnasium while awaiting accommodation

They found refuge inside the gymnasium located next to the Saint-Sernin high school a Toulouse. Friday 3 December 2021, the association Right to Housing (DAL) 31 supported the action of 39 homeless, including 21 children, who decided to occupy the infrastructure.
“There is a danger”
“Their situation is intolerable and has been going on for weeks. Sleeping in the street is unworthy in all weathers but with temperatures approaching 0 ° C, there is danger ”, thunders the Toulouse association, which regrets the lack of solutions put in place for these families.
“At Samu Social, 92% of calls go unanswered, and out of the 8% of calls handled, requests remain without accommodation solutions due to a lack of places”.
The associations regret the absence of “concrete solutions”
The occupants and the various associations who suffered them (DAL 31, RESF, FCPE, LDH, Cercle des Voisins and Utopia 56) “Demands that the State take its responsibilities starting this evening (Friday December 3, editor’s note) and offer them, without exception, accommodation adapted to their situation. These people take their destiny into their own hands and refuse to wait any longer. The prefecture has the power to requisition vacant premises and everyone who is homeless has the right to emergency accommodation ”.
According to the DAL 31, the prefecture of Haute-Garonne was to provide “concrete solutions” earlier in the day “. “What she did not do,” plague the various associations, which have therefore decided to take action.
