Vienna – The Climate Protection Ministry will distribute a total of 4.5 million euros over the next five years for three new endowed professorships at universities in Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna. At least again this sum will be invested by the universities and business consortia, according to a broadcast by the ministry on Friday. The content is about “Active Mobility”, “Acoustics and Noise Impact Research” and “Dynamic Systems”.
The Ministry of Climate Protection has been funding such endowed professorships since 2014. The program is handled by the FFG Research Promotion Agency. For Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), the professorships have become “a tried and tested, established instrument to call outstanding Austrian researchers. They are implementing lighthouse projects that are both scientifically and economically highly relevant”.
1.5 million euros each go to the University of Innsbruck, the Technical University (TU) Graz and the University of Economics (WU) Vienna. At the University of Innsbruck the endowed professorship “Active Mobility” is the third of its kind. The new chair will deal with topics of mobility, traffic planning, activity and movement in everyday life and leisure as well as in connection with tourism.
TU Graz also brings the program to its endowed professorship. The work at the new chair for “Acoustics and Noise Development Research” will primarily focus on traffic noise and go in the direction of “Quiet City”, it is said. “Dynamic systems” will be the focus at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The topic is “data-driven sustainability in economically relevant core areas”, such as the transport and energy sectors.
The professorships “help universities, business and industry to move closer together,” said FFG managing directors Henrietta Egerth and Klaus Pseiner. The academic independence of the chairs is stipulated in the funding conditions. According to the FFG, who will hold the new professorships will only be decided. (APA)
