The alternative that Portugal needs
1- The new directs in the PSD reappointed, once again, Rui Rio as president of the PSD.
But this time, it was not just this choice that the militants had to make: they had to choose the candidate for prime minister in the legislative amendments. And that’s what he did.
2- The militants of the PSD took the decision of not wanting to go against what the electorate wanted. When a militancy – with very little representation of the voters of a party – wants a different choice than that of its electorate, the contract of trust is broken and the umbilical cord between a party and its voters is cut. In this case, the militants had the sense that the vast majority of PSD leaders lacked. It was, therefore, a great lesson in democracy and a sense of responsibility that the PSD’s base militants gave to their leaders.
3- I find it incomprehensible and even petty that structures show support for any candidate. It’s not your role. The militants choose for themselves, they decide for their judges.
What is the meaning then of representative structures to manifest it? Is it to give guidance to its militants? And if, after all, this recommendation is not followed (as it manifestly was not), are political tools not removed? This is all very strange to me. Both the audacity of giving an indication and the political irresponsibility of not drawing consequences from the fact that this “nomination” was not respected by those to whom it was addressed.
4- Now, with the party clarified internally and with its leader duly reinforced, the PSD is facing the country, consolidating itself as an alternative that Portugal needs! And presented as his great asset Rui Rio for Prime Minister of Portugal. Those who like and who don’t like Rui Rio recognize that he is serious, impartial, patriotic in his political action and, above all, has the necessary capacity and capacity to take the measures he needs and to implement the reforms that we so much need.
5- That’s what we need now. From a PSD that presents itself as the beacon of hope for the Portuguese. A PSD ready to rule. A PSD that, in the wake of its reformist tradition, leads an economic growth program that makes us equivalent to our European peers. A PSD that makes us believe in Portugal and in our ability to excel in the construction of this collective project of almost 900 years.
