Testing of the new SOR NS18 articulated bus begins in Prague, DPP has rented it for a hundred a month
Within a year, the bus changes in different garages, starting on line 125.
Passengers on line 125 between Skalka and Smíchovské nádraží are waiting for a new type of bus from tomorrow. The company SOR Libchavy has agreed with Dopravní podnik hl. m of Prague (DPP) for the annual rental of the NS18 bus for a symbolic price of 100 crowns per month, during which it will test its functionality in demanding Prague traffic.
“The aim is to test a new type in the demanding conditions of Prague public transport and the functionality of individual components. Thanks to this, we will gain operational experience with the new NS type series, which is connected to the most widespread buses in DPP, ie SOR NB 12 and NB 18 cars,“The head of the DPP’s communication department was Daniel Šabík. Timetables for the coming days are published at DPP website.
The DPP will deploy the bus gradually to different order in order to test it in all operating modes and conditions to provide support from different drivers. The pilgrimage will begin on the Hostivař garage lines, and you will gradually visit the other DPP garages.
The NS series brings a number of changes and innovations in the exterior and interior. In addition to the new design, the articulated bus has only four doors instead of five pairs in the NB 18 version. In the interior, the vehicle has a larger number of passenger seats at floor level. The bus equipment and the information system comply with the applicable PID quality standards, including air conditioning in the passenger compartment and the driver’s cab. The vehicle’s engine meets the stricter emission limits with effect from 2022, ie EURO VI step E. The vehicle is also equipped with a blind spot monitoring system, which we plan to demand in the event of a positive test fleet during the next renewal of the bus fleet.
So far, only three NS18 articulated vehicles are in operation. One runs in Germany, the other as a trolleybus in Teplice. The third is now in Prague.
