Covid-19. Portugal registers 21 deaths – the highest number since March – and 2535 cases | Coronavirus
Portugal registered, this Thursday, over 2535 positive cases of covid-19 and 21 deaths associated with the disease, according to the daily bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) published this Friday.
In total, the country has registered 1,157,352 positive cases and 18,492 deaths associated with covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
The number of deaths recorded on Thursday is the highest daily value since March 17, when there were also 21 deaths by Covid-19.
Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and the Center region had the highest record, with five deaths each, followed by the Algarve with four, the North and Madeira with three and the Alentejo with one.
Of the 21 deaths, 15 were of people aged 80 and over (71%). Of these, 10 were men and five women. There were also three deaths of women between 70 and 79 years old and three men between 60 and 69 years old.
Similar to what happened in the bulletin released on Thursday, the number of cases is lower than that verified on the same day of the previous week: last Friday the report indicated 3205 new cases, 26% more than the new ones disclosed on Friday. fair. Even so, the 2535 cases identified this Thursday are higher than the two-week figure (2371).
There are 902 people admitted to Portuguese hospitals, 14 fewer than the day before. Of these, 129 are hospitalized in intensive care units, one more than the day before. The decline in hospitalizations interrupts a sequence of 26 consecutive days of increases in this indicator – in that period, the country passed from 341 to 916 hospitalized, a growth of 169%.
The DGS bulletin reports 56,439 active cases, 1199 less than the day before. There is still a record of 3713 recovered in 24 hours, increasing the total to 1,082,421, around 93.5% of the total cases identified. The fatality rate is at 1.6%.
The North region had the most new infections, with 841 registered within 24 hours of Thursday – 33% of new national cases. 820 infections were also detected in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 528 in the Centro region, 168 in the Algarve, 101 in Madeira, 62 in Alentejo and 15 in the Azores.
