Annamaria pleaded, the boss made her kneel and shot her
The first murder of the feud between the Silenzio and Formicola clans was that of Annamaria Palmieri: the woman was killed as a transversal revenge against the ex-wife of the boss.
The first blow in the chest, as he pleaded to spare her life. The others in the chest and head as he tried to escape. A blatant execution, in front of everyone, to make it clear that the Bronx had master and that the same treatment would be reserved for who you would be. But that day, kneeling among high-rise buildings, with a gun pointed in her face, there was no rival boss and those not even a Camorra soldier: there was Annamaria Palmieri, the “Masculona”, who paid with his life for his closeness to Assunta Formicola, “Susetta”, ex wife of the boss Francesco Silenzio. To tell the details of the murder is the collaborator of justice Antonio Costabile, who for the Silenzio had been chief cop.
The split between the Formicola and the Silence of the Bronx
The murder is reconstructed in the ordinance that led to the blitz of the Naples Mobile Squad in which the handcuffs were taken for 26 people (24 in prison and 2 under house arrest), including leaders, wingmen and affiliates of the Silenzio clan, the one who had expelled the Formicola family and had appropriated the “Bronx” of San Giovanni a Teduccio, East Naples, transformed into a Camorra fort from which to control the neighborhood also militarily. A split that, according to the testimonies of justice, would be born out of revenge: the boss would have been betrayed while he was detained and, once he returned to freedom, he would have chased away both his wife and her relatives, declaring war on the clan that until recently he was a solid ally and of which he had also been regent in the past.
For the death of Annamaria Palmieri, the boss Francesco Silenzio, Alfonso Silenzio, Demetrio Morra and Vincenzo Marigliano are investigated (all recipients of precautionary measures in prison in the ordinance, identified as belonging to the clan, but only Francesco Silenzio in relation to the murder ). There are several versions of that story, various collaborators of justice trace the murder back to the Silenzio clan, and identifies “Francuccio” as the principal, even if the reconstructions diverge.
Ambushed in the bar in Arzano, the target was the nephew of the boss. Two innocents among the 5 injured
Annamaria Palmieri killed in front of everyone in the street
In the context of the split is the death of Annamaria Palmieri, known in San Giovanni a Teduccio as “‘o Masculone” or “Nino d’Angelo” because of her short blond hair. It is January 22, 2018, the police arrive after the call of some residents. The body is on the ground, riddled with shots; the autopsy will establish that it was killed with 6 bullets, four in the shoulders and two in the front, which injured the lungs, heart and brain. The investigations immediately turn to the Silence clan and the ongoing feud for control of the Bronx.
It turns out that Annamaria Palmieri is not an affiliate, but she is very close to Assunta Formicola, ex-wife of Francesco Silenzio, and to her mother, Maria Domizio, wife of the boss Ciro Formicola. He is a sort of handyman: he chauffeurs the two women, accompanies them to interviews in prison, runs errands for them. A collaborator of justice will then say that he also narrates to collect the lace at the markets on behalf of the Formicola, about 2 thousand euros a week, but on balance on “Nino d’Angelo” they are only old precedents and certainly does not occupy a place of relief in a criminal organization.
For those two women, removed from the Bronx of San Giovanni, Annamaria Palmiero is however a person of the utmost confidence. Perhaps a friend more than a close collaborator, so much so that it is worth “their blood”, a person of the family. And perhaps it was precisely this aspect that decreed her death: killed like a boss, in front of everyone, to send a message to the two women she was close to, both belonging to the Formicola family, that of the ostracized from San Giovanni a Teduccio.
Annamaria’s execution in the Bronx high-rise buildings
In the order, among others, is reported the story of Antonio Costabile, known as the Acerrano, who before repenting was head of the Silenzio family. The man explains that that day, like every evening, Palmieri had returned to the Bronx to bring food to Francesco Silenzio’s son, on behalf of his mother.
The tale is that of a terrible execution:
“Francuccio Annamaria by the arm and carried her down the stairs while I followed them. Annamaria complained not to go down and I put my hand on her shoulder and pushed her to go down. Once in the hall Francuccio accepted the gate and went out. Annamaria telling her that he was in charge of San Giovanni and despite Annamaria begging him not to, he shot the first one in the chest saying “bring this to those over there”, referring to Susetta and her mother.
I walked away a few paces and he fired the second shot that took her in the chest, I think, because I was farther away. On the third shot the pistol jammed. Francuccio scarrelò but in the meantime Annamaria had staggered up. Francuccio held his hand and fired the third shot that took it because it ended up on the ground doing a sort of turnaround. Francuccio approached and fired two more shots to the head. I walked away and heard them shouting from above that the guards were coming. “
