ROME

a Saturday at risk of chaos. Atac lines diverted

Sugar Mizzy December 3, 2021

It will be a difficult Saturday afternoon for circulation in the historic center of the capital: right on the first day of a weekend that, in practice, opens the highlight of Christmas shopping. In addition to the conditions for possible gatherings – today the obligation of outdoor masks comes into force – there will be three events to further inconvenience the Romans. All protests will be followed with particular attention by the police, also to verify compliance with the anti-contagion rules from Covid, starting with the use of masks. Furthermore, at 6 pm, the big match between Rome and Inter is scheduled at the Olimpico, for which a specific safety and traffic plan has been prepared, with parking bans in the Foro Italico area.

THE PROTESTS
The main problems for city traffic are expected due to the march of the Cobas, Cub and Usb base unions – scheduled from 15 to 19, from Piazza della Repubblica to Piazza Madonna di Loreto – against the government’s economic policy. The participation of about three thousand people is expected: the demonstrators will walk along Viale Luigi Einaudi, Piazza dei Cinquecento, Via Cavour, Largo Corrado Ricci and Via dei Fori Imperiali, for the procession in the area of Piazza Venezia.

TRANSPORT
During the protest the Atac will be forced to divert or limit various transport lines on public roads: H, 5, 14, 16, 40, 50, 51, 60, 64, 70, 71, 75, 82, 85, 87, 105, 117, 118, 170, 360, 590, 649, 714, 910. In the event of a possible closure to traffic also extended to piazza Venezia, via del Corso, via del Plebiscito, viale del Teatro Marcello and via Cesare Battisti, there will be further detours for buses 30, 44, 46, 62, 63, 80, 81, 83, 119, 160, 492, 628, 715, 716, 781 and 916.

I SIT-IN
Also in the afternoon two “static” demonstrations are scheduled, without a procession, but always in the most delicate areas of the city traffic. From 3 pm in piazza dell’Esquilino (in the area between via Cavour and the Obelisk) sit-in of the Movement for the right to housing. The participants will then join the Cobas procession: the initiative is expected to be attended by 200 people. Finally, from 3 to 5 pm, another demonstration against the economic policies of Palazzo Chigi: the demonstrators called to the streets by the Front Movement of Dissent against the measures of Mario Draghi’s government will meet at the Circus Maximus. The participation of about five hundred people is expected.

THE APPEAL
The regional councilor for health also intervenes on the risks of the day of protests in the historic center: “I would like to make an appeal so that those who manifest do so in compliance with the correct behavior to combat the pandemic, wearing a mask – underlines Alessio D’Amato – Our Region has an Rt value of 1.01, lower than the national value (1.20), but incorrect behavior can favor the incidence curve. We do not do like other areas of the country which, due to incorrect behavior, now find themselves in the yellow zone ». Today, again on the mobility front, for works on the exchange between viale Trastevere and via Induno, lines 3 and 8 will travel by replacement shuttle buses along the entire route from Valle Giulia to Trastevere station and from Casaletto to piazza Venezia.
