Zurich will double the number of textile containers from 2022
The number of textile containers on public land in Zurich will be doubled to around 120 from January 2022.
In January, additional collection bins for textiles will be set up in the city of Zurich. The number of textile containers on public land will be doubled to around 120.
In return, the street collection for textiles, which has so far been carried out four times, will no longer be carried out from 2022. The population of the city of Zurich disposes of around 2000 tons of textiles every year through the disposal channels organized by the city.
The separate collection and disposal of clothes, bed and table linen and shoes that are no longer used is very well established.
120 new textile containers at the recycling collection points
Disposal + Recycling Zurich (ERZ) is reorganizing the textile collection for next year. In order to offer the population more disposal options that are always available, the recycling collection points for glass and small metal will also be equipped with textile containers from the beginning of 2022.
Every recycling collection point that has space for an additional container is stocked. This is the case for at least 120 of the total of 166 collection points. Today there are around 60 textile containers on public land. The number is thus doubled.
Recyclable waste collection points are listed on the ERZ website
The usual drop-in times from Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., apply for use. The recycling points are listed on the ERZ website and listed in the Auch city map. The collection point at which a textile container is located IS continuously updated in the online directory.
Clean, intact textiles that die in a closed sack are suitable for the textile collection. The collected textiles are recycled, which means that they largely remain in the material cycle. This saves resources and benefits the environment.
Street collection is discontinued
In addition to the textile containers, a street collection for textiles has been carried out four times a year in the city of Zurich. For this purpose, the licensed provider sent specially produced bags to the households and collected the textiles provided in them on a certain day at the roadside.
Street collection is costly and causes unnecessary traffic in the neighborhoods. The city of Zurich has decided to forego street collection from 2022 and instead to increase the number of textile containers in the city.
