The repair of the roof of the Glass Palace in Prague 6 should be completed in the spring of 2022
This will be followed by modifications, among other things, air conditioning in the building that owns the town hall. This follows from documents on public complaints and information provided by the spokesman of the sixth district, Jiří Hannich.
“Due to the fact that the building is a cultural real estate monument, all works are continuously consulted and approved by representatives of monument care,” said Prague Council Councilor Eva Smutná (safe for TOP 09), who is responsible for strategic development and monument care.
The replacement of the roof cladding, the reconstruction of the chimneys and other modifications to the roof of the building, the appearance of which arose from the design of architect Richard Podzemný, is now carried out by PRO URBAN employees. The company won a public contract this summer, which Prague 6 announced.
According to city hall representatives, the goal is for the building to have better thermal properties and insulation against rainwater after renovation. Until December 14, companies can apply for the currently announced tender for the processing of project documentation for the reconstruction of technical distribution, cooling and heating in the house.
The roof of the Glass Palace will be passable so that people can use it to relax. It was similar about 80 years ago after the construction of the functionalist building. At that time, according to information on the town hall’s website, there was, for example, a sun terrace with loungers and a bar at the top of the building.
The trapezoidal house was designed by the architect Podzemný for Zemská banka. The building has been a cultural monument since 1958. The six-storey building is connected to the two lower wings of the building, which face the Czechoslovak Army and Terronská streets. The building now has retail space, apartments and a ceremonial network of Prague 6.
