The car park under the New Stage is open again, accommodating up to 204 cars
The price for construction work increased by approximately CZK 39 million to CZK 204.2 million excluding VAT, according to the contractual documentation.
Reconstruction of the parking facility began in April 2020 and has been completed since November this year. The reason for the modification was the unsatisfactory technical condition of the building under the piazza ND. “The reopening of the garages in general is the end of the first significant stage of the reconstruction and modernization of the space of the new stage and the two operating buildings of the National Theater,” Burian said on Thursday.
The director of the National Park described the reconstruction as technically demanding. This was also confirmed by Tomáš Rys from Strabag. Due to the fact that the building is in the center of Prague, according to him, transport material, among other things, was problematic. 2032 cubic meters and 258 tons of iron were used for the new reinforced concrete ceiling slabs and columns that connected to the original structure, he added.
The concurrence of the construction with the period of the covidu-19 pandemic was previously described by Václav Pelouch as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Theater. Due to government measures related to the spread of coronavirus in 2020 and 2021, the visitors ‘theater was closed and the necessary demolition work did not meet with visitors’ traffic, he said.
204 parking spaces, four for electric cars
According to the Pontex project, 204 parking spaces were created, of which four parking spaces are intended for electric cars. There were also three charging stations for electric cars in the parking areas. Seven motorcycles will also be able to park under the theater building. Air conditioning and wiring in garages are also new.
According to the National Park, the building was in poor technical condition before the reconstruction. There were cracks in the structures, the building was leaking and the ceiling slab of the piazetta, ie Václav Havel Square, was in unsatisfactory condition. It was lower due to the dimensions of the original columns and their placement in the building and the capacity of the garages, which is being reconstructed, increased by a third.
The National Theater has undergone several years of reconstruction of the State Opera buildings and is preparing to reconstruct the New Stage, which has been declared a cultural monument this year. According to earlier information, modifications to the New Stage building should begin in mid-2022 and cost about 700 million crowns. It should be done two years later. ND plans to repair the adjoining building, formerly known as Themos, in the coming years, which should include a rehearsal room and facilities for educational activities.
