Russian Tennis Federation moves past Sweden, reaches Davis Cup SFs | ATP Tour
Daniil Medvedev defeated a nimble Mikael Ymer 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday in the Davis Cup final to win the Russian Tennis Federation’s victory against Sweden and book his place in the semifinals in Madrid.
The 25-year-old had to work hard against Ymer, who broke Medvedev’s serve three times. World number 2, however, produced flashes of brilliance, firing 14 winners to triumph after 72 minutes. Medvedev has now won all six sets he has played in the Davis Cup final this year.
“I should have earned better but I am really happy to get the points for the team,” Medvedev said in his interview in court. “Madrid feels like home, we win many matches, we beat Spain the other day. It was a big boost of confidence to beat the home favorites.”

Earlier, Andrey Rublev survived a scare and beat Elias Ymer 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (3) in two hours and 13 minutes to give the Russian Tennis Federation a 1-0 advantage.
Rublev recovered from wasting a 5-3 lead in the second set when he showed patience to secure his victory. Ymer fended off all seven break points he faced in the decision, but Rublev got his pressure counted in the tie-break to triumph.
