Purple lid. Prague is expanding its network of collection containers for edible oils and fats
The project of container collection of edible oils and fats was started in April 2020, when Prague placed containers in more than 70 places. During the project, over 151 tons of oils and fats were collected from citizens thanks to containers placed in public places, which was a signal for the expansion of the project by several more places. Specifically, it was distributed around Prague another 300 containers.
The collection of edible oils and fats prevents pollution and gradual clogging of the sewerage system not only in the households themselves, but also in the public sewerage network. By sorting people, it prevents pollution and accidents throughout the sewerage network and reduces wastewater pollution. The collected oils and fats are then cleaned, recycled and later reused, for example, as a fuel additive or for heat and energy production.
People can sort in containers all types of food oils (sunflower, olive, rapeseed, soy, palm, coconut and others), fats (butter, margarine or lard), but also all oils and fats from canned vegetables, vegetables, meat, fish, salads or mushrooms marinated in oil. Used oils and at home it is enough to pour fats then PET bottles, run it well and throw in new collection containers, which the people of Prague will recognize by its purple lid.
In addition to the newly installed collection containers, the citizens of Prague can continue to use the city’s collection yards, or mobile collection of hazardous waste and edible oils, which is also provided for citizens for 2022, for the free disposal of edible and fats.
