“I voted for Valérie Pécresse”. Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor (LR) of Toulouse, displays his preference before the second round of the internal election of the Republicans, for the 2022 Presidential, which will oppose against all expectations Eric Ciotti (25.59% in the first round) to Valerie Pécresse (25%).
“A woman of conviction and dynamism”, says Jean-Luc Moudenc
Unsurprisingly, the mayor (LR) of Toulouse will vote for the president of the Île-de-France region, who embodies a much more moderate current, on the right, than that of the deputy for the Alpes-Maritimes.
“Valérie Pécresse is a woman of conviction and dynamism, able to create a large gathering around her name among the French”
The Republican candidate has also come several times in recent weeks in the Pink City. She notably participated in the inauguration of the new avenue Jacques-Chirac in Toulouse, in the presence of the daughter of the former President of the Republic.
Jean-Luc Moudenc preferred Michel Barnier
Jean-Luc Moudenc, who had posted his preference for Michel Barnier before the first round … With 23.93% of the vote, his candidate arrived only in 3e position, even if he finished the race ahead of the favorite Xavier Bertrand (22.36%), the day’s big loser. Both have already indicated that they would vote for Valérie Pécresse.
“The tight result attests to the authenticity of this democratic exercise, which contrasts with other denominations”.
For the mayor of Toulouse, “the debates were dense and respectful, a deep unity of view between the five candidates, each with their own style and sensitivity”.
Pécresse wants to “eradicate” “lawless areas” like Mirail
During the last televised debate between the candidates, when discussing the issue of security, Valérie Pécresse made a noticeable allusion to Toulouse, evoking the failure of the “62 republican reconquest zones identified by the government”, and taking example from three districts of France, including that of Mirail, which according to its terms of “zones of absolute lawlessness”, which it intends to “eradicate” during “punch operations”, and if necessary “to at one point, “with” the support of the military.
An exit which made the Toulouse opposition jump, and in particular the group Alternative Métropolitaine Citoyenne of François Piquemal (which supports, him, Jean-Luc Mélenchon), and which denounced “a stigmatization of the district of Mirail and its inhabitants caricatural and degrading “, before asking Jean-Luc Moudenc to” dissociate himself from the words of this candidate “.
