Prague 2 will help traders, buy packages with small gifts from them
Last Friday, the government banned Christmas markets selling trees and carp. People are also not allowed to drink alcohol in public places.
“Without Christmas markets, Peace Square is sadder than I would like. Letting the Christmas markets close day by day is another huge blow for tradesmen and small business owners. That is why we did not hesitate to help them at least a little and buy small gifts, “said Deputy Mayor Alexandra Udženija.
The town hall offers packages as gifts for employees and clients of the Center for Social Services in Prague 2 and also for primary schools established by the city district. “At the same time, we made our seniors happy,” Udženija added.
The organizer of the markets on náměstí Míru, Martin Valovič, told ČTK last week that the damage would be in the millions of crowns.
“The effects of the cancellation will be large, both for our economy and for the individual seller. Over the next two days, vendors will be shipping their equipment and merchandise. We will take the equipment next week, “he said.
The government’s decision was criticized last Thursday by the mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, who called the sudden closure of the markets outrageous.
The organizer of the Prague Christmas markets on the Old Town Square, the company Taiko, also opposed it. According to her, the government measures are shocking and the marketers describe it as absurd and for some sellers even liquidating.
The markets on Prague’s Peace Square did not last long due to the measures
