Portugal is one of the countries with the least impact of the pandemic on the economy, says minister
Portugal is one of the countries in which the pandemic had the least impact on the economy, says Economy Minister Pedro Siza Vieira, this Thursday.
“Exports of goods in Portugal, between January and September, including the period of greater confinement, increased compared to the period of 2019, which had been the best ever,” he says.
The government official affirms that the OECD “recognizes that Portugal will grow a lot this year and next”.
“Next year it will be the second OECD economy to grow the most, after India”, also points out Pedro Siza Vieira.
The OECD is revising upwardly the projections for economic growth in Portugal and now anticipates that, this year, the country’s GDP will increase by 4.8%, in line with the latest government tools.
The estimate for 2022 is more optimistic in three decades than the Executive’s. The Paris-based body points to a growth of 5.8%.
Finance Minister João Leão says that these are figures that put Portugal in convergence with a eurozone.
“The OECD predicts that Portugal will resume the path of economic convergence with the Eurozone. By 2023 Portugal should grow almost two percentage points above the Euro Zone”, he explains, in statements made to the press.
